I was fortunate to work with Awai in 2018 on a book for @thinkequal and it was joyful work. Afterwards she and I talked about working together again.
I wrote Princess Insect with Awai’s work in mind and just look at the result: The atmosphere! The colour! Character design! Pattern! If there’s editors reading this, we’d love to pitch the book to you.
Princess Insect is a book for 6-8 year-olds about an unloved princess in a kingdom that scorns curiosity. The story celebrates resilience, compassion and gentle determination.

This story is about the dumb decisions we make when we’re hungry.
When a forest dragon eats all the crops, Doctor Satya must stop it from eating her friends, next. She must also stop her friends from hurting the hungry dragon.
Featuring: angry people, rotten eggs, an act of kindness and tomatoes the size of bowling balls.
